Planning a beach day on Long Beach Island this summer? The Southern Ocean Chamber has released updated beach and badge information for the 2026 season, helping visitors and residents prepare for a safe and enjoyable summer along the Jersey Shore. From beach badge pricing to lifeguard schedules and accessibility services, each town offers its own unique amenities and policies.

Beach badges are required in most LBI towns for anyone ages 12 and older during the summer season, with seasonal, weekly, and daily options available. The six municipalities that make up Long Beach Island, Barnegat Light, Beach Haven, Harvey Cedars, Ship Bottom, Surf City, and Long Beach Township, all provide guarded beaches throughout the season, generally from mid-June through Labor Day. Most lifeguards are on duty daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., while Ship Bottom extends coverage until 6 p.m. 

Visitors are reminded that swimming at unguarded beaches is strongly discouraged. Several municipalities also offer handicap-accessible beach services, including beach wheelchairs, transportation assistance over dunes, and ADA-accessible beach entrances. Many towns continue to expand accessibility programs to ensure everyone can enjoy the shoreline.

Beachgoers should also note that tents are prohibited on all LBI beaches, and badge policies vary slightly by municipality. Some towns offer perks such as free beach access days, discounted preseason badges, senior discounts, and free admission for active military and veterans.
